Leaders for Readers
Remember when you learned how to read? If you’re like most people, you might not. But you probably remember how reading made you feel. The Knox County Mayor’s Office and Knox County Schools, along with Great Schools Partnership are proud to introduce Leaders for Readers: a new volunteer program to help first, second, and third grade students practice and grow their reading skills. Our mission is to raise the number of students in Knox County who can read proficiently by the end of third grade. Studies have shown us time and time again that literacy is best obtained by the end of third grade. Help us give more students the one-on-one support and practice they need in these critical years to better develop strong and deep reading skills. ***Students need reading mentors for the Fall 2019 semester.*** Let us know you're in! Join our Volunteer Interest List by Clicking the "Express Interest" button below. We are in need of volunteers at the following elementary schools:
Sam E. Hill
Sarah Moore Greene
Once interest has been expressed, volunteers can expect an email from the program manager with more details on completing their background check. This process takes approx. 1 week. Volunteering will begin at the end of September 2019 and run thru the end of April 2020.
