The Hope Gala

The Hope Gala serves as American Cancer Society’s annual black-tie affair to raise funds and awareness for cancer, while also celebrating 5 distinguished individuals in the Knoxville community who’ve had cancer. We refer to these individuals as honorees and this year we will be recognizing the following people: Keith Phillips, Janet Testerman, Emily Lamon Justice, McKenzie Loy (pediatric cancer survivor from Webb) and Sam McCamy (posthumous honoree). In addition to honoring these individuals, the event includes unlimited spirits, a live band with after party, mission moment, and both a silent and live auction. Our silent auction contains over $80,000 in retail valued items. Furthermore, this year’s live auction will include both a boat and Yukon Denali. Themed Havana Nights and chaired by two very enthusiastic chairs, Brian and Shelby (Stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer Survivor) Quinley this year’s event is sure to be our best ever with a current confirmed attendance of 515 and over $320,000 projected to be raised.

Auction Set-Up | 1:00 PM - 6:00 PM | 2 volunteers
Also watch over the silent auction items from about 4PM – 6PM while staff leave to get ready for the event. There are some very high-priced items on the auction and need constant eyes on the items.

6:00 PM - 10:00 PM | 8 volunteers (check-in) | 10 volunteers (auction)

Once the auction closes, some volunteers will help with flipping the silent auction tent into the check-out tent and the other volunteers will help staff in the main ballroom during the Mission Moment & Live Auction. Once this is over, they will help with check-out.
A steak dinner is included with this shift.

Auction: assist guests with placing bids on the mobile auction.
This is a good position for someone who enjoys talking to people. You will help "convince" attendees to place bids on items.
Once the silent auction closes at 8:45 PM, volunteers would assist with flipping the silent auction area into the check-out area.
A steak dinner is included with this shift.
Dress is black business attire (skirt, dress, or pant suit for ladies and black shrit & slacks for men).
There is a brief training needed for these volunteers. If available, we will schedule a time on Tuesday, November 5. If unavailable, please plan to arrive 30 minutes early on Friday, November 8.

Seat & Table Navigators | 5:45 PM - 10:30 PM | 4 volunteers
These volunteers need to arrive 15 minutes early to learn table locations prior to the event.
Once everyone is seated, these volunteers will be moved to assist in other areas, if needed. This will be the first volunteer group to be "cut".
A steak dinner is included with this shift.
Dress is black business attire (skirt, dress, or pant suit for ladies and black shrit & slacks for men).
