EFSP Food Distribution
Emergency Food Helpers is a coalition of food pantries in Knox County working together to alleviate hunger in our community. EFSP Food Distribution is a fun day of working in a warehouse to help organize and distribute emergency food supplies to a large number of area food pantries.
We will be distributing emergeny SFBs (standard food bags) that each feed a family of four for three days. Pantries receive shelf-stable items such as canned meat and vegetables, rice, cackers, non-fat dry milk, breakfast drinks, fruit, applesauce, and other foods. These items many pantries would otherwise go without; as funds and resources are limited.
Volunteers for this Food Distribution are vital components in the battle to combat food insecurity in the Knoxville area.
Volunteers are encouraged to wear closed toed shoes, and will be asked to lift boxes and bags of approximately 20+ lbs. As you arrive, look for the gathering group of volunteers in front of the four warehouse bay doors. There will be a brief welcome and introduction followed by ~2.5 hours of manual labor service.
