2018 Rossini Festival

This is Rossini!

Knoxville Opera’s annual Rossini Festival International Street Fair, now in its 17th year, has been designated a “legacy event” by Knoxville Mayor Madeline Rogero and serves as a celebration of the performing arts.  The public enjoys 11 consecutive hours of live entertainment on five outdoor stages (opera, jazz, ethnic music, gospel, modern and ethnic dance, ballet, vocal and instrumental ensembles) and the YMCA FunZone while shopping exhibits of over 100 prominent Artisans and enjoying cuisine from dozens of food vendors.  This unique event transforms downtown Gay Street, Market Square, and the adjoining streets into a European-style pedestrian street mall appropriate for the entire family.  The Rossini Festival has entertained well over 500,000 people from Knox County and the surrounding region in the first 16 years!  As the Street Fair is offered free to the community, it is largely dependent upon sponsor support for its funding.

Approximately 300 volunteers are needed to assist with the sale of food tickets, beverages, and merchandise to attendees.  Please fill out as much of the information as possible during registration.  This will help assign you to the best possible role and helps us provide you an enjoyable volunteer experience.

Volunteer Benefits:

  • Two free tickets to either performance of Knoxville Opera’s production of Verdi’s Aida at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium on May 4 & 6.  Click here for information on the production.
  • Discounted and pre-sale Rossini Festival merchandise (at the training sessions)
  • Snacks and beverages provided in our Rossini Volunteer Appreciation tent during the Festival

As we get closer to the Festival, we will be emailing you additional information – where training sessions are, where to park, where to check-in, when to check-in, assignments, and other information - so watch your email for updates!

Volunteer Training: Thursday, April 5 at 6:00 p.m. OR Monday, April 9 at 7:00 p.m.

If you need to cancel a volunteer shift, please email to rossinifestival@gmail.com and place CANCEL SHIFT in the subject line.  Let us know the name and shift that you need to cancel so that we have an opportunity to fill your spot.  This ensures a smooth experience and may keep others from volunteering longer to cover a “no-show”.

This year's Rossini Festival will be April 14, 2018 from 10:00 am - 9:00pm in downtown Knoxville.

Knoxville Opera has additional volunteer opportunities which can be found at www.KnoxvilleOpera.com/volunteer.

For group assignment inquiries, requests, and specific questions please contact Natalie Dowling at rossinifestival@gmail.com
